The Navy’s “Green Hornet” program focused on developing and testing alternative fuels for the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
The “Green Hornet” is an F/A-18F Super Hornet, specifically one that was flight-tested with a 50/50 blend of camelina biofuel and conventional JP-5 jet fuel. This was part of a larger program by the Navy to explore the use of alternative fuels in their aircraft. The flight tests, which included supersonic operations, were designed to evaluate the performance of the biofuel blend under various conditions.
