Now it seems imminent: the end of Lufthansa’s four-engine fleet is inexorably approaching. With 17 aircraft, Germany’s largest airline was one of the largest operators of the Airbus A340-600. During the coronavirus pandemic, the end seemed sealed. But when demand quickly rose again after the lockdowns ended – faster than new aircraft could be produced and added to the fleet – Lufthansa decided to reactivate ten of the 75-meter-long aircraft. As of August 2025, six aircraft are still active, and at least two more are scheduled to be retired in the fall of 2025. It’s high time, then, to dedicate one more – presumably the final – edition to the long-haul model with a new registration. Herpa’s SnapFit models offer unbeatable value for money.
